7TH BSNL DAY CELEBRATIONS ON 12 NOVEMBER 2007

Honourable Minister of State for Communications & IT, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, took part in the 7th BSNL day celebrations at Chennai recently, and gave away the Visisht Sanchar Seva Padak awards for the year 2007 to the meritorious employees. In a grand function organised jointly by Chennai Telephones, Southern Telecom Region, Southern Telecom Projects and Tamilnadu Telecom Circle, 35 employees from all the four circles received the awards, which carry a purse of Rs. 21,000., a medal and a citation. The function was presided over by Shri R. Purushothaman, Chief General Manager (CGM), Southern Telecom Projects. While the gathering was welcomed by Shri M.P. Velusamy, CGM, Chennai Telephones, felicitations were given by Shri S. Raghavan, CGM, Southern Telecom Region and Shri A.S. Egaya, CGM, Tamilnadu Telecom Circle.

The Honourable Minister during his speech said that India has the fastest growth rate in telecom, pushing China to the second position. Pointing out a direct relation between the growth rate of telecom industry to that of the per capita income growth, the Minister cited the example of Punjab where both the per capita income and the tele-density are the highest. He further stated that India is the only country where on the one hand the telecom growth is at its maximum, and on the other hand, the telecom tariff is the cheapest in across the world. With this combination, he said that the industry is bound to see exponential growth

He congratulated all the award winners for having contributed to the organisation's growth and for those who have missed the awards, he said that "There is always a next time" and urged them to continue working for the betterment of the organization. He further remarked that he was very happy to note that amongst the awardees, an equal number of them were men as well as women. He stressed upon the need to be more proactive and service-oriented towards customers and always keep in mind the fact that BSNL is in a competitive scenario and giving good service to the customers is the only way to retain them
